You're too isolated from society when...

When there's a huge wildfire in the middle of your city that causes a power outage and evacuations and the first you hear about is when you're idly browsing the internet fighting insomnia at 5 a.m.

I really should get out more. Or at least watch the local news.

On the plus side, whenever New Mexico makes the national news, less of the people I talk to on the phone at work ask me astoundingly stupid questions like, "Oh, New Mexico, what part of Mexico is that?" or, "Oh, is the tech support center in New Mexico because of NAFTA?" Or compliment me on my excellent English. Yeah, I've been practicing for 25 years, I'd like to think I'd be good at it by now.
